Hacked Items
#61
you buy a second hand vehicle from a used car salesperson...

how do you know that car wasn't stolen? well even if it had VERY low mileage... but no way of tracking if it were in fact stolen and was sold for a reasonable price *cheap, but not WAYY TOO IMPOSSIBLY CHEAP that it's too suspicious* like 10,000$ for a second hand 2002 BMW 3 series that has 20 000km on the odo... you say you wouldn't buy it? you say you would launch a law suit against the salesman claiming he's selling an illegit vehicle? or that he bought from someone illegit?

maybe you would... but a lot of the people would not care... and to be honest... i don't think the police would neither

PS: lol@peach...

Failed arguement. Anything can be compared, as long as your comparison makes sense and isn't outrageous (and even those conditions are debatable). Have you ever heard of metaphors or symbolism lol.

well any1 in the right mind would take the item or "car" in this case in real life.. because its REAL LIFE. some ppl in a game might not because its just made up money that might not matter to them.

Except if your car is stolen, and the owner reports it, it can be repossessed and you end up with nothing. That's probably a major factor in people not buying stolen merchandise.

consequences are different though.

what she/he says. getting banned from ms because you possess an item aquired illegitimately wouldn't hurt as bad as losing 20 grands irl. banned from ms (for me at least) = time to find another game. losing 20k = no fancy restaurant for this year or no vacation or even 2 meals a day instead of 3 for 3-4 months. of course I just made all those things up, I dont have a job nor do i have that much money to lose. so i wouldn't know how badly would that affect my life.

I won't side with anyone on this hacked items matter, just wanna share my opinion on comparing stuff. but yeah this thread sure is interesting.

Sure anything can be compared, but the point still stands that losing a maple account and or meso CANNOT hold par to losing large amounts of money in real life. It just can't, and it never will. The time you spend leveling your character in MS would be the most annoying thing to lose for most people. As someone has already stated, if this happens, maybe you should consider find a different game. Then again, maybe not. If you're like me, you REALLY hate Nexon's idiocy, but REALLY enjoy the gameplay, so finding a different game may be hard. Whatever the case is, IMO there is no comparison in losing stuff in MS to losing stuff in real life. To draw such a comparison is a little ridiculous. Sure you can make a technical comparison to help illustrate a point, but the point still stands. Losing things in a virtual world will never be as severe as losing things in reality. Ever. That's not an opinion either. It's a statement of fact. If losing stuff in the world of Maple is more important than the things in your real life, something is seriously wrong. >_>

lol @ everyone missing the point.
You see a good/great deal, why wouldn't you take it? There's rational limits to paranoia. :[

well if you say that. you missed the point too. the thread was about buying hacked items, not really about prices ~_~

The analogy was about buying something when you don't know where it came from, not how Cars and Maple relate.
If you see a good deal, you'd buy it. I know I wouldn't look at a 50 Dex sauna for 5m and think "was this hacked...?"

@stereo

if it was reported to be stolen 2 years ago, usually a stolen vehicle report stays alive for a month at most... and that car has been through many hands... and has always been bought/sold for cheap, so the last seller decides to sell for cheap as well

there is NO WAY of knowing if it was the very one that got stolen neither. especially if it was a common vehicle not some very rare 1 out of 10 produced in the world. no one would even bother checking neither

and i don't think anyone would sell a stolen vehicle within the month it got stolen, they hold onto it till the 'case goes cold'

meso =/= money, virtual items =/= cars, and the consequences are different... sure

but the concept of real people trading an item suspected of being acquired by illegal means that has no way of knowing if it really is or not... for a good deal is the same

99% of the cases, the car you buy would not be repossessed even if it WAS fraudulent...
most of the cars reported stolen that got back are the ones stolen by idiots who only needed a random car for a short drive and just dumped off somewhere on the side of the streets. those with cars that are targeted to be stolen by the "professional" car smuggling ring would never see their owner ever again... unless it was one of the world's rarest cars ... of which you can be sure it was stolen and reported to the owner but no one in their right mind would even try to steal that... just writes "i stole this car from _____" all over the face

I dunno if that's entirely true...some dude paid like 250 grand for an item on WoW.... As for the items, I dunno what you're all on about, it's your own moral choice, but you have all the variables, such as it being legit, someone watching you (i.e. the seller, a GM, etc.), what it is, how believeable it is....

Buying a hacked item is not illegit unless you get a refund!

Ok how about, if you know an item is not made with legit means. You can afford that item, will you buy it and still consider yourself a legit player?

Ok, I can admit that using an illegit weapon isn't necessarily a good thing since you have helped to fund a hacker, but honestly I feel more strongly towards the viewpoint that as long as you aquire the item through legitimate means then you are still a legit player despite the status of the weapon.

Since 1k NX = 1 USD, the comparison is not really that far out.

In other countries the ratio can be much worse; one of my guildies is an Israeli, he reports that in his country a 25k NX card costs 65 dollars.

I see.

^^ That's bad for the market don't you think?

This is all hypothetical,
if duping came back, people stopped caring about hackers, and illegitimate mesos saturated the game, wouldn't that be proven bad for the economy?

*sigh* Everyone is so power hungry now.

Xiyuuna Wrote:Still I think you'd have to be a really oblivious person not to know what is what.

*sigh* I hate getting even into this discussion but, I guess I must be one of those oblivious people. Meaning I don't have time to check every forum everywhere to see if a weapon/armor/item by so-and-so is a hacked item or not. There are some names that I have come to understand not to trust over time and yes I know enough to know that someone named h876yuyllygj isn't trustworthy. However I don't know enough about how hacks even work to really care how it got made.

I play Maple in my spare time when I'm not working, managing a house, babysitting my 4 month old niece, or spending time with my husband. I go through the FM when I can and when I have meso to spend. I have a tendency to use owls to search for things and I go for the best item at the best price... period. Who made it means nothing as I probably won't recognize the name or even remember the store. Just what it is and what its price was.

Does that make me illegit? No it means I have a utilitarian look on things. Its not up to me to make sure who sells what is doing it right. True we would all love a perfect Maple where there is no hackers (or even at least less hackers!) and no fear of getting something that is questionable. But really some of us just don't have time to be researching sellers and scanning Youtube to see if they frapped how they made it. We just know what we need and that's what we look for. If with my limited knowledge I know its hacked or its a hacker's store, yes I will pass it up. But don't assume that everyone knows every hacker in their server and will immediately attempt to bleed them out by not shopping with them.

It just doesn't work that way in reality.

So in conclusion,
It is acceptable to buy a hacked item with or without knowledge of that item being legit or not legit.

People will do anything to be stronger, better and faster than the next player by any means necessary.

Thanks people.
