Mid-season finale spoilers, and the last 2 episodes
The Governor is the worst character ever. he's like a cut and paste villain with no humanity whatsoever. sure, it makes for a brutal villain, but it makes him utterly boring to watch, and while his actor is decent, I don't think he suits the lame role well at all.
They went to stupid lengths to make a him look like a badass, like a legitimate threat. I found it so annoying how he's always so calm and staring into space, even when a zombie is coming at him, or he's in the middle of a warzone. It's completely unrealistic the way he has no reaction to ANYTHING.
There were 2 whole pineappleing episodes focused on him, trying to show a human side to him, only to show, SPOILERS, he has none! He isn't even a good motivational speaker or anything, how the pineapple did he manage to convince that group to war with another band of survivors after like 2 days of taking over as leader? shoddy shoehorned other factions, a pathetic attempt to bring back a character that for some reason people fangasm over.
He's a pineappleing dull character and completely ruined season 4 for me as soon as they brought him back.
The only highlights of these 3 dull as hell governor centric episodes was:
1: an actual honest to god gay person on the show, and 2 of them! also despite being a lesbian couple were not played for fanservice at all, and genuinely had a tender moment in the mid-season finale, with one of them shown to be an actual good person much like Rick's group
2: actually good shock value, it's just a shame it was connected to the Governor.
I'm a bit miffed that they didn't show him actually die. He got stabbed through the fucking chest with a katana, and then had a gun pointed at him by a woman with shaky hands. They could have shown his body lying there, or showed him being eaten by walkers. It pisses me off because now they can find a way to bring him back, and i'm not sure I can continue watching this show if they bring him back again.
The baby isn't dead. The two girls hid her and got her when Tyreese wanted them to go the other direction.
I have to say, this season has been dull. This episode and the one before it were really the only interesting ones so far, and even then they were simply writers' decisions that I didn't expect them to take.

Agree 100% with your post.
I was really disappointed in the season premiere. To be honest I think that American Horror Story did a better job if we're gonna compare season premieres.
The episode where it was just about the governor meeting up with those people and playing chess with the little girl was a snooze-fest for me (some people say it was for character development, but eh).

No season can ever be remotely as bad as Season 2.

I agree, that episode was by far the most boring episode of the show yet. "Character Development" isn't even justified, since it was development which completely disappeared in the next episode.
My favourite episode of the season by far was episode 5, focusing on Hershel and the quarantined prison block. That episode was genuinely scary, tense, and exciting to watch, all the way through it.
They pretty much had to get rid of Herschel - he was too much a stabilizing force within Rick's group, being "The only sane man" as well as an experienced medical professional (albeit a vet, not a people doctor). He served his role as a mentor to Rick and had a huge amount of focus dedicated to him in the episodes before The Walking Governor kicked in...
I also don't think the baby is dead. There was no corpse nearby, no blood splatter/drip on the nearby ground...
All I could think towards the end of the most recent episode, with the ultra-cheesy "Caaaaaaaaaaaarl" "Caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahrl" was
