Maybe its because of the family-friendly nature of the series? Thats a big stretch, I know, but hey. I'd wager most of the pictures in the page I linked to came from the two sources I mentioned earlier (dA and small Invisionfree forums).

That's what I usually hear. Somehow there's just so many more people who like Jesus, like Sonic, and like making fan art than other fandoms I've wandered across. MLP is family-friendly and Lion King is family-friendly and those fandoms churn out just as much really eyebrow-raising fan art but so little of it is religious compared to Sonic. Iunno. The internet is weird. Everything is weird.

Every fandom has it's weirdos or cringe worthy members. No exceptions.

Weird fandoms? This should be interesting.

I just find bronies in general to be obnoxious. My experiences with them is they have nothing else to talk about but their fascination with something that I would describe as the 21st century powerpuff girls. That and when they do talk about it, they emphasize how they're not insecure about it, as if it reinforces their male masculinity because of it. I liked the powerpuff girls, when people would bring it up, I'd say it's a good show, left it at that, I was frekin 9-11.

That and one piece is clearly superior by all means

I find 95% of the fandom to be ridicuosly obnoxious too.
But that's pretty much in every fandom with people who has NOTHING else to share of their lives but the fandom itself.

Oh man I love those videos, and I like supercodplayer1995. He's da man.

If it appeals strongly with teenagers (especially emo/goth/alternatives) then you're going to get the fucking weirdest, most vomit-inducing fanbases you'll EVER see. If it doesn't appeal strongly with that demographic then you get a normal fanbase, with a normal amount of weird here and there on some occasions but nothing out of hand.

As a Homestuck fan, I second this so hard.

Every fandom has its share of weirdos, bronies (and I don't mean all bronies because I know a lot of perfectly sane ones) just happen to be one of the loudest ones. :U

(Oh my god don't even get me started on the other fandom weirdos they are awful I mean SONIC FANS)

As a former homestuck fan reader of homestuck, I have to say that it's all fun and games until your fanbase surpasses critical mass.
It's also a bad idea to interact / symbolically incorporate them into your work, especially the bad/embarrassing ones.
