I am looking forward to this release a LOT.
The manga is incredibly well-done and entertaining and if the anime isn't messed up it should be good.

Short story synopsis:

Several hundred years ago, humans were nearly exterminated by giants. Giants are typically several stories tall, seem to have no intelligence, devour human beings and, worst of all, seem to do it for the pleasure rather than as a food source. A small percentage of humanity survived by walling themselves in a city protected by extremely high walls, even taller than the biggest of giants. Flash forward to the present and the city has not seen a giant in over 100 years. Teenage boy Elen and his foster sister Mikasa witness something horrific as the city walls are destroyed by a super giant that appears out of thin air. As the smaller giants flood the city, the two kids watch in horror as their mother is eaten alive. Elen vows that he will murder every single giant and take revenge for all of mankind.

It has a lot references to nordic mythology and names for some reason.

Not sure what you mean with finished translating, the scans and translations are up to date with the currently released chapter in japan, if that's what you meant.

No, the manga hasn't even ended yet. It is up to date with its Japanese counterpart though. As far as scanlation goes, that is.

As for the anime, I saw the trailer. Can't say I'm too interested. The PV does make it look pretty cool, but it's not really my type of series.

Yeah sorry. I though the manga was finish but it just hasn't been fully translated. Last time I was reading it ,before today, They hadnt released any for a while so I stopped looking for it. Didn't realize its a once a month release.

Wow, you guys made me spend an entire afternoon reading all 41 translated chapters.

I think it is now either my second or first favorite manga of all time.

I'm glad the trailer made clear how the gas-powered wire thingies worked though...it was confusing in the manga, ha ha.

I just started reading the first chapter today. This seriously looks amazing, it also makes me think of masterpieces like Shadow of the Colossus and The First Law series while having its unique qualities. I'm most definitely downloading this when it airs!

EDIT: I just finished reading all of the chapters as of 5:40 am yesterday. The only nitpick that I have is that I can hardly remember the character's appearances and tie it to their names as a number of them look generic but this is otherwise one of the best action manga I've ever read and the chills it gives me is reminiscent of manga such as Monster and 20th Century Boys, both also manga that deal a lot with the darker side of human nature.
