Of course the world isn't made up of nothing but peace-loving beings. How could this have been easily prevented though? If it could have been, what prevents other disasters in the future? There were disasters after 9/11 of course, and there will continue to be disasters, both from nature and humans.

Okay, I take that back. It'll be better to argue that if people weren't such assholes this wouldn't have happened. This is a fault on humans. Many disasters we can blame Mother Earth, but we can't do anything about it. This goddamm disaster was due to man, though, and that thought sickens me. How can some goddamm brainwashed idiot find heart to kill thousands of INNOCENT civilians? Hell, their reasons are stupid. The goddamm Koran justifies NOTHING that the terrorists have done.

I was 8 back then, so hardly remember anything. It didn't really have any impact on my live, so I don't really feel anything when I think about it. There are terrorist attacks all the time, the only reason this one gets so much attention is because of where it happened.

not even close. a nutbar pastor and his 50 church patrons are attention whoring and causing pomegranate all over the world. this guy is truly disgusting. he talked to a local imam and then heard that the imam in new york was thinking about moving the mosque, he assumed it was because of him and stopped the planned burning. when he later found out it wasn't because of him he basically had a hissy fit and went back to his original plan. really seems like he just wants to get into history somehow.

Middle School, bus stop. I swore they were BSing me and didn't get what the punchline of their joke was supposed to be (rarely did). When I got to school, they put it on the announcements and I was surprised it really happened.

As much as I feel for those who were lost, and believe in proper memorial services, the media has done way too much in emphasizing negative events such as this for years and years. We've moved forward, whether I can say we're on the right foot at the moment, I don't know, but asides from today out of respect, I wish the media would stop replaying the footage.

I lived in Seattle, WA at the time. Parents both worked for United, mother had retired as a flight attendant shortly after my conception. "United Airlines plane has hit the WTC" lead to both parents jumping out of bed at 6, or whenever their alarm went off. I woke up as usual, came into their room, saw them watching the News and got shushed when I asked what was going on.

From there, school went on as normal. This was 3rd grade, so our daily writing prompt was about the incident. "at 10 o'clock the second tower fell" or something was in my bit, and the teacher got mad at me for making stuff up. All of this confused the hell out of me, since I hadn't yet grasped the concept of time zones. "But it's only 9 here...."

The resulting havoc at United led to a pension drop, which cost my dad - whom has worked with United for over three decades - a bunch of money. He's still mad about it, and has been talking about court stuff recently. All I know about it was the Golden Parachutes that executives got while the company was struggling. <__<

Whole class was confused, my school didn't broadcast it. They didn't want to scare us.
I came home and my mom was all choked up and sad, and I didn't understand it until a day later.
From that time on is when my fear of flying began.

I was in Grade 7 at the time I believe when 9/11 happened. It was about an hour before school started my time and I was watching Garfield. The news broadcast interrupted my Garfield program and showed me a plane crashing into a building. The newscasters were saying things like "2 planes have just crashed into the World Trade Centers" and "Dear god it's going down!". I had no idea what was going on until I learned a bit more about it at 6 pm. I didn't even know where the hell the World Trade Center was. I'm a Canadian. It had little impact on my daily activities and it has not affected me in any way but the sequence of events that happened afterwards, namely the Afghanistan War that involves Canadian troops, have had a large impact on the public conscious here. At first I watched every single news story coming out of Afghanistan mainly out of interest in why we were a)in the war, and b)were trying to accomplish being in the war. To this day I try to find information about our troops there but there just isn't the same outrage or focus on the war. On the news cycle I only hear "Canadian troops are putting together an offensive of NATO troops into _____(normally Helman) province" and "another soldier has died today". When a soldier dies I only see the repatriation process along the highway of heroes in Ottawa, the reason why they died and a general overview of their life like "He loved his wife and children and was generally a good soldier". There is no story, there is just tears. There is no reason, so that is why we cry. We never stop crying because we'll never know why it happened. And that to me is what 9/11 is. A crime that will never be justified.

I feel old too... I was in grade 10, woke up for school that morning, and got told by dad first thing. But of course, being in Australia we are about 12 hours ahead, it happened in the middle of the night our time. Dad thought it was a movie too, because Hollywood really love to blow up the American landmarks... like Mt Rushmore for example. Anyways, all the TVs at school that day stayed on all day and its what everyone was talking about. It was a friend's birthday on the 12th, and another friends birthday is on the 11th. Everyone remembers her birthday, but for the wrong reasons.

Personally, I buy the conspiracy theory that the US government was involved, either that, or the US airforce was too stupid to react to something that severe. Besides, wouldn't intellegence have come way before it actually happened? Or is America under the false sense of security because they have never had a war with anybody (Britain or themselves) for about a hundred years until that day 9 years ago? Or was it an attempt oto get the Americans spirit up so they won't object to invading Afganistan? I am not denying that it isn't sad that a couple thousand people lost their lives on that day and it resulted in many broken families, changing things forever for the world as well. Just thought I'd go a bit more logical about it.

@Zalfor, I agree with you, Afghanistan has killed 21 Aussie soldiers now, and what are we there for anyway? Its not really up to the US to get rid of all the "evil" leaders of the world. Sheesh, I mean Kim Chong Il would be top of the list if they were really serious about doing the right things for the world. = = But wait, they might get their arse kicked by China. This whole war on terror is just dumb and a waste of money, time, and innocentl lives, not to mention the soldiers there who are getting shot or road-side bombed.

I always hated muslims to begin with. 9/11 just supported my hate.

@Kortestanov: The terrorists are really just extremists that have twisted their own faith beyond recognition. I don't think it's a good idea to lump all other muslims together with these terrorists just because they both claim to be muslim. It's not very fair to the innocent muslims, to be honest.
