Nah, the mobs were actually really easy to control using Fake Shot once to stun them, then Backstep Shot to get away, then just snipe from a distance. I had no problems training at FoG, though Magatia's C-2 was a lot easier because you can just zone out there. 
And yeah, Gaviota does cancel Fake Shot's stun and it's highly recommended to get Cooling Effect before it. In fact, I really don't like Gaviota in general.. It's impossible to control, takes forever to attack (if it even does), and you have to cast it every 10 seconds.. It's decently helpful in mobs though, I guess.. The best build in my opinion would be maxing Triple Fire, then Cooling Effect, then Octopus, then Gaviota, and finally Homing. Then throw the last 11 points into Fire Burner even though it's pretty useless.
