Otaku is a person that devotes himself so much to his fandom that he has no social life, and as the word itself implies, doesn't even leave his house(Besides for shopping/etc) because of said fandom.
Otaku is an incredibly insulting thing to be called.

otaku are people who LIVE anime.

their entire life revolves around anime man. you don't want to be that.

In English, it is usually used to refer to an obsessive fan of anime/manga and/or Japanese culture generally, and Japanese video games.

Nowhere on wikipedia does it say that Otaku are social shut-ins who care for nothing but anime.
