To those who've quit: What would make you come back?
It's not 30 hours of wasted time, it's 30 hours spent learning to never make that particular mistake again! I say that such a system would -only- work with a game that has such a large playerbase as this, though it may still require something like cross-server bossing to round up enough people like myself willing to risk so much for a gain that is not exactly comparable. While the rewards are better than anything else in the game, they still aren't technically "worth" the amount of effort put in, I agree. But that's the fundamental difference in my reasoning for playing games; I play for the challenge, not the rewards. Even if the hardest boss in a game drops nothing, I still want to fight it just to say I've beaten it, and I'm positive there are others like me out there. Sure you can find a handful of people with the skill and the desire necessary to beat bosses like that in a pool of players as large as MS's base. I will say that the way MS bosses are now, I would not want to do such a thing; self-healing bosses with time limits and tons of crappy fake difficulty skills is too frustrating even for someone like me, like I said before, I like things to be as skill-based as possible, and when a boss uses something randomly that can not be countered by any amount of skill, I don't like it. And while I did say I like long fights, that same applies to battles like AV in FFXI; I would rather wipe at 1% HP remaining than have the boss use an unblockable 100% heal skill at 10% remaining with the entire party still alive after it took us 20 hours to get him down that far. MUCH rather, in fact.
