I'm just porting my own stereotypes (hispanic/venezuelan, just in case) on to a brazilian since we're kind of the same (mostly language wise) and I'm pretty sure its easier to jump from fantasma to phantom than to ghost, just like I've seen several times people use an english word just because it sounds like something in spanish when its actually something totally different from what they think it means (if I'm not wrong theres even a name for that type of words).
