Would it be right if I profited off of your game directly?

But who owns virtual items inside a virtual environment? The company who produces the game or the player who earns the item within the virtual world? If I own a virtual item, should I not have free reign to sell/trade/use it as I please?

In short, the game producers can make it against the rules of the game to partake in "gold-buying", and they can reasonably ban players over it, but I don't think it's actually illegal, and I don't think a civil case would hold up well either if that's the only offense. Maybe some gambling laws might be able to be put in place regarding them, but when there isn't an OFFICIAL way of converting virtual currency to real-world currency, I think they're all clear.

Nexon can't sue hackers unless they maliciously attack. Merely breaking the ToS by using third party software is not something to sue over. Malicious attacks on the server, however, could be subject to litigation, in addition to being criminally illegal.

This is why the distinction between script kiddies and hackers is warranted, although it's often overlooked. Someone who uses software to cheat at a game has earned themselves a ban from the game, but nothing more. Meanwhile, someone who has DDoS'd a server (which I understand is part of the duping process), however, could be sued for damages and, if caught, face criminal charges.

The problem with this however is the earlier mentioned problem of NX being a secondary currency - I too agree with the removal of the MTS. I personally think that would have to be done first before anything that would directly affect mesos.

That's not a problem so much. Re-valuing Mesos would only change the conversion rate of NX to mesos. I'm not hip to the market rates, but if, say, the rate was 1000 NX to 1 million mesos, deflating the mesos by a 50% rate would just change the conversion rate to more like 1000 NX to 500k mesos, although it would rise as inflation kicked back in. Either way, the point is that erasing 50% of all mesos in existence would maintain buying power of a player while changing the worth for an individual unit. And ultimately... removing a rate of mesos like that wouldn't even help the economy; it'd only help bring down values such that items no longer have market values higher than the software-required maximum amount that can be held at once.

And I don't think Nexon would ever let the MTS go away. Ever. It's probably even more pointless to discuss that than it is to discuss this other stuff that they also are most definitely not going to do.
