If EVERYONE's mesos get cut by 90%, you'd still be just as rich. If something is sold for 1 billion mesos currently, after a 90% cut in mesos, that same item would be worth 100 million. And if you owned 2 billion mesos, your total would drop down to 200 million. But you'd still have the same buying power. Everyone would have the same buying power as before. The difference is that each individual meso would be worth 10x as much as it had before. Everyone's wealth would be constant, but the individual units would be artificially given additional strength.

The goal is to make things cost less, specifically a reasonable amount, specifically an amount that players can actually hold. Amping up the value of the individual currency unit by artificially deflating is one way of achieving this, assuming, of course, that hacking and duping are also cut out beforehand.

As the above poster said, just because the amount of meso went down, doesn't mean prices will go down.

The game isn't ruined. I recently came back from having quit for a long time and I've been having plenty of fun with it. The thing that IS ruined is the economy, the market. And there are plenty of things which could be applied to turn the tides back quite a bit.

And no... if something is worth 3 billion mesos right now, and mesos get cut by a percent such that no one has more than, say, 500 million mesos in total, anyone trying to sell anything for 3 billion will completely fail. They can't say "Selling for 3b," if no one can afford to buy. And if they knock out the botters and dupers before, that would allow the re-valued meso effect to last pretty effectively, particularly if they pair it with other options, like additional tools for removing currency from the market like increased prices on potions or universally decreased meso drop values. Not to mention that some good ol' bans on gold-farmer accounts might themselves remove countless billions from existence as well.

I don't think there is a strong legal precedent or even a law supporting this. Best Nexon could do is hold up the Terms of Service which is "signed" by each player upon signing up, and all that would do is justify Nexon in terminating offending accounts and blocking unwanted players.
