Etc etc. And each piece of equipment should have its own cap based on existing scrolls. My overall has 29 int. I created it YEARS ago. Cheaply available from NPC with ten slots and 1 base int made it relatively easy to get 20+ ap from it. It might have been one 10% followed by one 30% followed by all 60%s, but it was so long ago I honestly don't recall for sure what scrolls I used.
Something as overarching as +255 doesn't work or just leaves tons of room for abuse.
If there is going to be a limit added, it should be dynamic to the item according to how upgradeable the item is and NOT what scrolls are currently available or a flat amount of 20 or something. Each item has a maximum clean amount for every stat. It could be 0 or it could be 17 or it could be 70. Either way, any limit should be x+y, where x is the clean base max and y is the "reasonable" amount that can be upgraded. Maybe the upgrade limit should be the amount of slots available total multiplied by stats gained by a 10% scroll (3 for AP, 5 for atk/matk?)? That way, people who have equipment that gives more than 20 points in a stat legitimately won't ever get beat down for it and only those with truly impossible stats would be affected by the cap.
