That, and I don't like the tornado attack one bit, it's a blatant copy of Cannoneer's rolling barrel skill. But not like it's very important, as you won't use it past 2nd job.

No it isn't, it doesn't push mobs. It's more like arrow bomb than it is like rolling barrel.

I can actually see some good uses for it in general. When i was in 2nd job i used barrel to keep jesters away from my HS mule while i buffed. I'm sure i'll use it at empress to keep mobs away from the respawn point.

Doesn't push mobs away. Still extremely useful at level 1 though, throughout 2nd job.

I think its PPS (percent per second) seeing how anyclass can offically have more damage than any other class due to funding. PPS allows for no funding to be involved.

It's also a bad measure of DPS because it ignores the class's criticals, their PDR ignore, their weapon multiplier (e.g. knuckles and cannons have a very high multiplier and 1h swords have a very low one), their +%damage skills (mercedes' ancient spirit, cannon shooter's overburning cannon, viperisation), and a lot of other things.
