That whole double buccaneer thing looks like different frames of animation rather than anything shadow-partner like, really. I think that's what the arrows mean.
The whole 'player with spirit behind him' thing also probably means that the skills can be used both in regular mode and transform mode. Notice the third attack. One player in normal mode starting the attack animation, one player in transform mode below starting the attack animation, and both having arrows pointing to the actual attack.
