You don't inherit instincts. You inherent genes. Transcription and then translation can result in the production of proteins and other molecules that are responsible for producing hormones and cerebral matter, however instincts are not inherited. They are more or less taught|passed on through nurture over nature (had this flipped lol). Using the human brain for example, as far as neurotransmitters are concerned there is hardly consistency in any particular transmitter from individual to individual despite having the same mental symptom, i.e. depression. Serotonin levels from the cortex of patient were highly variable. Also a depressed parent does not mean the offspring will be born with the same symptom, nor have the same level of neurotransmitter respectively. (Serotonin is assumed to have a relationship with depression. Neuroscience nor cell biology were my specialty.)

If we're going to discuss something more concrete such as neurodegenerative diseases, then yes you have autosomal diseases like Huntington's Disease (Remy-chan from House) and sex linked diseases like Klinefelter's. Huntington's can be passed on, however individuals with Klinefelter's often result in the sperm inviability. So it is true that facets such as mental retardation may be passed on to offspring, however I don't believe that this concept is aligned to instinctual thought.

Also you tend to misuse evolution a lot in lieu of natural selection. If I were to explain it, I suppose that evolution is the product of natural selection acting on genetic mutants. Natural selection is the weeding out process. Evolution is the progression of a mutant species by meeting the particular needs of the environment and producing viable offspring.
