No one ever said that religion suddenly made everything unchaotic but they formed the foundations and first written laws of social norms. These social norms created also impacted evolution as our society didn't accept stealing, killing, or anything in the bill of rights.

...I guess you guys haven't seen the hypothesis that the 7 plagues were all caused by a volcano eruption and it was blamed on god's vengence to a corrupt king?
I wonder if you're aware majority of the 10 commandments are kind of the bill of rights. Food for thought.
