I didn't know we evolved (recently) from arthropods.

I didnt know we were talking about animals humans evolved for, i thought animals targeted i don't know, animals. And i thought all animals were the result of evolution.

iirc thats to reduce competition, also is less likely that the male of any species kill their own childs.

And that makes it less 'immoral' how?.. Even if it's to reduce competition it's still not moral by human standards to kill your own kids. And they will eat their young as well. A lot of animals do things that is far from 'moral' by our standards.

Edit: also a lot of felines have been noticed to hunt for fun, AKA killing for the sake of enjoying it, which again isn't very moral.
Many eagles and hyenas and other animals commit siblicid.
And so on.
