A company should "take advantage" of its customers. But what makes something exploitation rather than fee for service or product is not just a matter of degree.
Those of you who bought into cubing and wasted a ton of money are just as responsible as anyone else bilked into buying garbage. Is it immoral to bilk idiots? Maybe.
What makes a Nintendo game better than what Nexon has made of MS? Nintendo never charged us to get the best sword in a Zelda game - hell they never even sold a downloadable dungeon. They sell a finished game, and how much you can do in it is entirely up to you. Nintendo barely ever does microtransactions for supplemental content, and that isn't even close to selling in game items directly that affect your gameplay. So are they less interested in making money than Nexon? Of course not.
So why doesn't Nintendo milk their customers to the extent Nexon does? Because they're a company that cares much more about the quality of their product. How much they make just this quarter isn't their priority, they're in it for a longer term. A customer taking it up the butt from Nexon now is much less likely to play their other games, or even continue playing MS. Nexon gets a few fools to shell out thousands, but Nintendo gets many more people to shell out hundreds, and not come away feeling ripped off. Its as much about how they do business as how they design games.
Really, the exploitation I'm angry about isn't a company enabling addicts, it's a company ruining its product. Nexon is exploiting the existing work they did building MS and its playerbase. There are things about this game I liked, that were the reason I played it - and most of them are damaged or at best ignored due to the potential system. They've got an established game, with people who want to play it (or sunk enough time/money into it to keep playing it), and now they sacrifice game balance, design, and objectives in such a way as to extract as much and as quickly as possible from that established playerbase. pineapple microtransactions and definitely pineapple purchasing in game items with real money.

SwordStalker Wrote:Not exploit. They're a company. They want to drain us for all their worth. It's the exact same thing Nintendo, Sony etc does. They make something you want to buy, you buy it. The potential system is no different. You want better gear, give us your money. Don't see a problem. Gaming systems, you want whats new has the better graphics and does all this and more? Give us money. But this isn't the right way to look at it, everything a company does is not equally moral or immoral just because they want to make money. Certainly in the case of game designers, there's a finished product, a game, that we can assess and decide if the way they do business has good or bad results.
