Well, times are clearly changing whether you believe in climate change or not. I also forgot to mention that Tuvalu is also sinking due to rising sea levels, following the path of Maledives. Both nations are at extreme risk of being under water due to the fact that they both have the lowest points of elevation for any countries in the world. It's quite possible that within the next 100 years, Tuvalu will cease to exist. It's sad you know. Most of these Polynesian peoples have lived without severe natural disturbances for thousands and thousands of years, and now their lifestyles as they know them are being re-written. It's not just Tuvalu experiencing these problems either. Within the last few months, I was also reading about similar issues affecting Kiribati, Nauru, Fiji, Samoa, and Tonga.
