Competitive melee is pretty much an accident that people got way too attached to. Brawl is fun, and that's what matters.
Also, SSB4 is in no way being made yet. All that's been said is from E3, where they said that they want to do a Wii U and 3DS version, but they wouldn't be starting to actually make it till Kid Icarus is out... and that just got delayed to 2012.
