I'm not sure if they changed anything, but isnt there slight variation in the timing? The "standard" might be 24 hours, but it can range between say, 12-36...least that's what I remembered for stuff like mushmom, which was supposed to spawn in 45 minutes, but can go as low as 35 and up to an hour.

I remember that, but I've also seen shadowers get centipede spawns down pat. I used to wait in a channel, and a shad would come in, and would promptly spawn when he got in, and followed like this through all the channels(I later started following him and his 1HKOs). It was insane, but he knew spawn times like the back of his hand.
