There's no way he's the legend. In Ellin Forest, there's a boy named Lohd who's aspiring to be the next Dark Lord, which means that the Dark Lords have been around since before Victoria Island was founded.
I'd like to think the thief legend is the first Dark Lord. I could see him using a claw, with a secondary system involving psychic stars or something, and be a lot more of a mob controlling class as opposed to KILL EVERYTHING THAT'S IN FRONT OF YOU AND FJ TO THE NEXT MOB style that all the current thieves seem to be based around.
