The point I'm trying to make is WHY is the goddess' incredibly powerful mirror simply sitting at an altar, as you call it, and more importantly why the past? What about memory lane even signifies that it's in the past, other than the words "memory" and "regret" which are past tense. Nothing else, as far as I see it, signifies that memory lane is the door to the past. It's nothing like doom hene/ereve, and doesn't share anything about what went on in the past... You're not really going to disregard my point based on a technicality, are you?

i agree, not really past, but from the name of the places, i've always thought that it's more of our, or the goddess', memories of the past, we start by the memories, we continue to the regrets, and end at our oblivions (forgotten/blocked) then again, not much to back this up but the names of the places
