Combattente Wrote:Both the HH2 and Visitor stories weren't that great, IMO, especially the first one (though it's true that it was temp so yeah). But that's just my opinion. Maybe I got too spoiled with Prose's masterpieces. He said he really loved writing, and he did it pretty well, too.Oh of course. Nothing will beat what Prose did. It would be like if someone decided they wanted to write a 4th and a 5th book for Lord of the Rings. Might not be bad, first off it would be stupid to do, and second if you think you could come anywhere close to the story J.R.R Tolkien made himself you would be an idiot. Again I agree with everything you said about the BGMS, maps etc but you can say they at least tried and it does show. But yes you are right NOTHING will come close to the story Prose had in mind, and the story he made. He DID make it and you can't just see anyone matching that. They can come close, but it won't be what he did. That's just how it goes and its unfortunate. I don't see another story being bad, but like you said won't be Prose's story, won't be the Masteria he made. And that could be okay depending on how it plays out. But I have to admit that hiding mechanic was pretty damn cool in the future XD
The stories made by Nexon after his quitting were not even far as complex and well-thought as the ones he wrote. But I must admit the Visitor one wasn't BAD either. It was pretty.. banal, compared to the Masteria ones. But what I hated the most about the event weren't even the aliens themselves. It was how poorly designed some maps were. I mean, come on. Most (not all of them though, as some were very original) were just made of re-used pieces of other maps, and ALL of the BGMs were re-used as well (some also unfitting - see VPQ, which is just a walkthrough of half BGMs of Maple randomly thrown there). That's the part where I'd have liked to see more creativity from them, but it's not like they haven't done a good job with that in other things, for example in introducing some interesting new game systems as attacking from a mount, moving platforms (finally!), and dynamic background objects for all maps.
So yeah. They haven't done a bad job with it at all, but Prose's works will probably stay irreplaceable.
