I don't understand why people say Old maple was so much better

yet some people still claim how better it was how the community was so intelligent back then.

Found those all the time, so funny. So no.... the community wasn't any more intelligent than it is today.

But really when people get older they like the things they experienced before, and they like to reminisce about how it was when they first tried it. It's like the "when I was a kid I had to walk to school uphill both ways in the snow barefoot" stories. You can reproduce this, start a character on a new server, play without nx, don't read content upgrade notices (except the ones nexon posts), and get all your mesos by freelancing your drops. But once you tried the other way your satisfaction with the newbie play style is diminished because you know what you are missing. Similar to someone who currently lives in a technologically advanced society trying to live in a third world country. Third world country has slower pace, less expectations, and you get to work for yourself (farm, market, etc), sounds better right?
