People say the old _______ was better for two reasons:
1. Things always seem better in memory.
2. Sometimes things are being forced to live passed their climax. Hence why nothing lasts forever.
With this case, it probably depends on how far back you're going. In my case, I think 4th job was the first sign of MS's downhill due to the large change in damage, but the potential was the biggest and most obvious change in that regard. Overall, it was probably the potential system that completely ruined maple for many longtime players.
There were always hackers around, however people probably miss the days when the worst hacks out there were moving a monster from point A to point B.
Even Big Bang ruined things. Maple did have a sense of exploration with such a large variety of maps, however currently people can level to 120 insanely fast and the monster placement changes seem like a sign of laziness. Monsters had a backstory such as cold eyes deep in the dungeon and the differentiation of drakes. However cold eyes in ellinia makes no sense as well as many other monster placements. The game feels a lot more linear. Normally there would be huge maps that would have 2-3 portals in them that led to different areas, however if you look at your world map you'll see it's more or less a straight line.
Overall the game is less creative, too overpowered, and leveling is way too fast (which is both good and bad.) Having the skills and damage of classes change every other patch is ridiculous.
