I had a similar problem, but for me, I need to attempt to change channels multiple times for it even to register that i tried changing channels
If I spaz it, and open up the channel change window while i'm in the process of actually changing channels, and then press escape, it opens up a menu on the bottom, and then the game crashes.
The only thing i can think of is that the game's detecting input from one source for two separate menus at once, (one accepts up/down, the other accepts up/down/left/right) simultaneously, something inside the client conflicts, and it just stops.
But yeah, I've had your problem too.
