The only people that follow all the lore are the people that are so old that they feel embarrassed when they go and buy their Pokemon games now.
Really, you expect the new kids to know any of the old story crap? Pokemon is just about the giggles and battles, and the ''backstory'' of the Pokemon are really just to make them more interesting.
