First of all the Caribbean is definitely located in North America. Secondly, Europe is ~not a country. [Credentials; Studying for a Geography undergrad BA at UoN, UK].
My objective here was to instill an awareness of how geography is IMPORTANT, as well as to bring to common attention how terrible the teaching of geography is in most of North America (including the Caribbean). No hate, i blame society- not you.
You didn't sound hostile, Karen. Actually, that post bothered me a little, well, as a good geography student like you already wanted everyone to know you are, you should also be aware that not all the Caribbean is a portion of the North American continent, like Devil has stated already.
Second, of course knowledge is something important and interesting. But it's not really nice to come in and go "Excuse me, lady, you just made some ridiculous unexcusable mistakes, so, let me correct you for the common knowledge, but i don't blame you for doing it, i blame all the educational system from where you live from teaching you the wrong information enough for you to make such mistake".
Seriously? I doubt it wasn't clear enough that her previous post was refering to Europe as any European Countries, refering to the poll's focus. Although it sounded like what you've been saying, her intention was pretty clear. We aren't really discussing geography in this thread, because if we were, being an American would refer to any of the first 3 options, but we can clearly see it's different from that.
We all know how important Geography is, but there was absolutely no need for such a tone in that post, much less a public correction for something everyone already understood. It may be only me, but the tone in your post didn't really sound any good. Not intending to troll, much far than that, but seriously, not only had an elitist tone but was total and completely unnecessary. The majority of the ones who read that already noticed what she wanted to say with Europe, there was absolutely no need to start a discussion about common mistakes or how bad the North American education system is. Sincerely, that was too much off-topic.
