@satellite.....you are exactly right. Thats what worries me.
It doesn't go magically from:
A/ You say this; to
B/ People understand another thing
There has to be a process for the loss in communication; and to make it painfully transparent for you, I have roughly outlined the train of thought that most of us seem to have had, please be kind enough to enlighten us where we went ever so wrong.
There are two scenarios:
1/ Obama listening to the consults offered to him and make appropriate interventions: Boom, zip, bang, conflict prevented.

2/ Obama refusing to do 1/: Ka-boom-bee-boom, conflict waged.
