Pretty much sums up my view after reading through these posts. If you want the bully to learn something, you're going to have to beat it into them because chances are the authorities won't do a thing about it except punish your kid whenever he stands up for himself.
It may go against your views, but 'an eye for an eye' is the best "lesson" that applies here. It goes against mine, but from personal experience it's the fastest way to end bullying.
