I don't see how anyone can confuse predetermination and free will.

That's a very good point. They're complete opposites.

(Also, no, this is not a discussion about "God intends to make things happen for a reason", this is about fate. I really don't want to get into the God-debate.)

I'm sorry, but that's BS. Fate is one of the things religion is built around. You can't have predetermination without someone or something determining it.

I think some events are predetermined/fate, but the minor events inbetween aren't. Like a major world war or your future spouse would be fate. Choosing whether or not you wanna put salt on your fries isn't predetermined, those things could go either way and not change whatever fate you're destined for.

Then I ask you: At what point does an event become just important enough for fate to step in? And to attack the "salt on your fries" analogy: heart failure from too much sodium? That seems like a pretty big event, no? I'd think that last dash of salt could've been the straw that broke the camel's back, so would that move the event into predetermined area?
