I play Maple Story specifically because it's so childish and ridiculous. It's not hard to let people in my college know that I play it either, especially since I live on a floor full of nerds that are all getting into WoW and LoL. As long as I don't go and act as if playing Maple is something to be ashamed of, people won't go pouncing on the chance to make me feel as if I've committed some sin because I'm 18 and still playing a childish game.
I also think maple would lose the appeal if it were given graphics like CoD. Maple was always meant to be childish, that's its entire attraction. And as Beg stated before me, a first person shooter can't really be compared to a roll playing game, they're in two completely different genres.
