Uh. Its a complete logical problem. No single person in the world fictional or real wouldn't equip a Varia Suit at the moment you enter a situation you need it unless you're an idiot. By the time you actually get to use the Varia Suit, Adam doesn't even offer an explanation why you couldn't use it.
You have but you can't use it. It's completely stupid logic wise. Any sane person would be cursing at the screen at the point in which you're allowed to use the Varia Suit.
Instead of coming up with a Bad story, dialog and shoving Samus's Sexuality down our throats, they should've come up with a plot device that actually disables Samus from using her Upgrades and forcing her to find them all over again.
