Then bring back the idea of Bahamut casting party buffs (particularly heal/dispel) if it worked like the Beholder and would "save up" its skills until they were needed then it could be quite a powerful aid at bosses, also obviously there's a difference between the strongest (neutral) and strongest (holy) attack at bosses, just look at how Heroes are preferred over Paladins most of the time.

Anyway, with Apples, any training mage skill has no real chance of comparing to a bossing physical class unless it's 60-80% stronger in training.
