Yeah, I agree. Tales of the Abyss had exceptional characterization though, and watching Luke's reactions and growth was amazing. That combined with the finally near-perfect battle system and the engaging (and beautiful) world (lots of sidequests!) put Tales of the Abyss in a league of its own compared to the other games. One of my favourite games of all time. Probably in my top 3 PS2 RPGs, even.
