So from what I think I understand from that, in just about all non-boss situations, I'm better off having less than 8660 defense, because before then it's not based on percentage?

I mean, once I pass that, and let's say I have 10000, I'm negating a set 33%, correct? But if I had 8000 defense, and the monster has 2000 attack, technically I negate 100% instead.
