I seem to be misleading a bit in my wording. To my impression, "pride" can mean two things, similar yet completely distinct to me -- equality and superiority. To hold pride in yourself is both believing in your self-worth and, to an extent, admiring it, believing in the back of your mind that you are, to some unknown extent, better. However, what seems to be commonly demonstrated in this movement is just "I like myself and you shall either like me or shut up about it".
Granted, that mentality is not solely attributed to sexuality issues, I'm just having doubts that, maybe, this doesn't seem like the right way to present yourself when you have such a difficult task to tackle.
And if you ask me, you know it's flaunted enough once it hits Wikipedia. I don't really know, there seems to be a missing piece of info as I keep going in circles about this. Perhaps there has been a "tragic period" which the LGBT has no choice but to be overly vocal about. In that case, I can empathize.
A better way to see where I'm coming from is that: pride is something you hold in, not flash out.
