At least in some areas it's the other way around - 'bisexuals' are reluctant to admit they're either homo- or heterosexual. OKCupid has a record of what sexuality people record in their profile, as well as the people they proposition for dates & stuff - turns out at least 2/3 of the people who do identify as bisexual are only going after one sex.

Of course that's not to say they wouldn't or never have been in contact with both sexes - the majority just has a strong preference.

I haven't actually looked at studies to back it up, but I've also heard it's fairly common for teens to have homosexual experiences, even if they self-identify as straight, and never fool around later in life.

I like the way you put it. I agree that the majority has a strong preference for one gender. As for bisexuals who go after one sex, some might intensely be interested in one sex and do not mind fooling around with the other.

I did take into account that you can't record accurate data for this subject. Too many people can just lie about this. Although I must admit OKCupid (is that a dating site) has an ingenious way of recording people's activities.
