I had that problem until I tried to log out of the website; it then told me that I had disconnected from the website, definitely during the SC. I logged into a different account and it works just fine.
If I didn't have to leave this account logged in to help out some friends, I would check my main to make sure, but I'm pretty sure it should work if you log off the website.
I've been having tons of problems with logging on from the front page anyway... I do better if I go to any other page, like News. Then my character actually shows up and I can tell if I've disconnected from the website.
