Solution to HackShield error 66817
#9
Once you are in Device Manager, you need to click on View / 'Show Hidden Devices' before you will see the 'Non-Plug and Play Drivers' section.

You can also use a program called Autoruns.exe to see all the low level hidden processes. Get it from:
http://www.sysinternals.com
this will take you to microsoft technet. Then click on 'process utilities', and look for autoruns. I can't give direct link, since it seems to be country-specific.

Be careful not to delete something essential, or you could make your computer non-bootable. Unless you know what you are doing, don't disable any drivers that are labeled Microsoft or Windows, and also avoid playing with low-level anti-virus functions.

At a somewhat higher level, you can also disable programs by running msconfig, and unchecking them. This is a good way to temporarily disable antivirus programs for example.
