You can say that they're all "special in their own way", but a retard by any other name is just as stupid. Likewise, when characters are different, some are bound to be generally better than others. A poorly balanced game is one where the tiers are widely spread and the bad characters get laughed at instead of taken seriously. Brawl is even more guilty of this than Melee.

Did I mention the creator of Smash Bros also said that it was never designed to be competitive?
