I also can't start from the website, same problem.
However, if you go to your Maplestory folder there should be something called "Gamelauncher.exe." You can use this to start the game the old way, it will pop up with a screen that says "Go To Website" and "Start Game." Just click start game and the game should load like the old way. That's how I do it.
