This is very nearly the equivalent of the landlord telling people they didn't secure their deadbolts properly so they have no liability for thefts from thieves who had copied their master maintenance key.
If a crime is occurring, the media has a right to know about, and if a company is trying to cover up criminal activity in a children's game, activity that could put the identity of those children at risk, that's even worse.
