Just get a (portable) external hard drive (not the desktop ones, that also require a power socket to function). File/data/drive corruption generally shouldn't be an issue, and external hard drives are a lot cheaper than the alternatives you listed.
On another note, my usb drive went through the washer before, while being hidden deep within a pocket. My ipod was also accidentally dropped in the sink once (lol). Surprisingly, both items were fine after a week of drying before using them again.
