What about the Black Magician mobs that appeared in the Aran intro video? Could those be the monsters being referenced?

Possibly. But I doubt they are anything close to the power of oblivion monsters, and that would make the GM look really clueless. Then again I've never met or heard of a GM that knows even half of what I do about Maple.
