To be honest, 2nd job has the advantage for spearmen. I've played all 3 classes to around level 60 and even though the Spearman wasn't the best geared, it was always the easiest to train. The longer range of weapons easily makes up for the instability.
You should think about why you stopped playing your Fighter, and then figure out which of the other classes could fix that. If you can't figure out what you don't like, keep playing the Fighter until you do know. There's no point talking about which 4th job is better if you're just not going to have the patience to get there, and at level 4x Pages and Fighters are 99% the same class.
