Glad to see another Pan's Labyrinth fan out there! Keep in mind that while I do like normal horror movies, the majority of my favorite movies are comedic horror and zombie flicks. If you dislike corny, smart-aleck horror films, ignore this post. I'm not sure of ALL the movies you have seen, so I'm just posting all that I have seen and enjoyed. Sorry if you have seen them though. ;P
Srs biznes:
-A Haunting in Connecticut; has a lot of jump scares, but a good story, an unsettling atmosphere, and wasn't an overall bad movie.
-Quarantine/REC (in spanish); o shi--a movie that has people that react SMARTLY to a zombie epidemic! You won't see a blondie run around the mob here, just some kickass action and a couple of surprising turns.
-Prom Night; your typical obsessed stalker/killer, and while it had much more potential, gives a decent watch.
-Ju-On(The Grudge); the acting is better, but still corny, as all Japanese movies, however, you get more of a backstory and exploration of the curse compared to the American version. More creative deaths.
-Ghost Ship; I don't know about you, but this movie scares the pomegranate out of me.
Doesn't help that I saw it as a kid first...
For your funny bone:
-Drag Me to Hell; the director of this movie made the Evil Dead and Army of Darkness movies. The film could be considered cheesy, a bit 'lame', and brief in plot, but I love me some good corn. It has a good balance of horror and humor.
-Jennifer's Body; I don't think it's out on DVD yet, I saw it in theaters a while ago, and while it's mostly Megan Fox going, "i'm hawt", the satire and overdone personalities of the characters make up for it. No sex in here, despite the tone of the film, but if you don't feel like dealing with Fox or the references to it, skip it for another night.
-Brain Dead; world record for the most fake blood spilt, need I say more?
It's just an over the top zombie movie with more chuckles than screams.
Someone has already mentioned Hot Fuzz/Shaun of the Dead, and I agree. That's some good stuff there.
