The monster doesn't look elemental to me. There's too many colors for it to come in variations. xP

I like the zombie theory better.

If the idea is that they're elementally charged weapons, that's all that would need to be elementally colored to imply elemental attacks.

And actually, I would say they're probably ghosts. Being a ghost doesn't stop you from being able to wield a weapon though, least of which a fire or ice elemental weapon.
