I think I've become a lot less of a damage whore since I first started, actually. I forged 2 INT gloves when I was still in first job, running around to the NPCs and collecting items... Spent a lot of money on a 78/7 Cromi and an 85/8 Thorns, both quite well-scrolled for that day with a 10% and most of the 60s working.
Now that I'm a bishop, my equips won't affect my training speed at all until I get to late 17x and can 1hko Skeles at some reasonable %. So, I still work on my equips, because it's something to do, but I don't really care much about when I get to my equip goals as long as it's somewhat around when they matter.
Also, I discovered that people would call my page "godly" even if she wasn't really, just decently equipped. I guess I've been feeling a bit of peer pressure to upgrade my gloves (10 atk 1 luk), but meh, I don't care very much...
It's interesting to see how godly people can get, seeing screenshots on forums and everything, but if you can't afford to compete (and I know that I can't), just make your own goals and try to reach them. I'm going to equip a Reverse Enreal Tear with 41 base LUK.
Even though that won't make my damage godly, it'll be fun.
Also, hi Dusk! I did my last few EFPQs with you on that bandit. I thought you were someone from Southperry, but I couldn't place you.
Hehe.
I guess, in the end, I was more worried about my equips back when training was so slow ("10%/hour at 5x is good" kind of thing) that even 1 or 2%/hour more from having good equips would matter. Now, I get 10%/hour solo at 145, and equips don't really affect my training speed at all.
In some ways, having better equips makes messing around with friends more fun... I don't know, I'm thinking about being a bishop with relatively bad equips and no Gen30. I can 100% 2hko Skeles just fine, but I do bad damage on neutral. Because of this, I haven't gone and done ToT quests with my guildies, because the pot costs are high when my neutral Gen damage sucks, and I haven't soloed bosses as much because my damage is pretty weak, even for my class. It is those situations that I want to upgrade equips for... And those are the ones I also find more fun.
A similar analogy could be made to having enough accuracy to mess around on a warrior, like bossing when you're low-leveled for it, though you could also add DEX to accomplish that, of course.
